Canberra Ave Bus Transit Way

Canberra Ave Bus Transit Way

The introduction of the Red Rapid bus service from DFO Fyshwick to Gungahlin made possible a quick regular service for Narrabundah residents. The initial route included a bus stop at Fyshwick Markets and Kingston Railway Station. The second route included a bus stop on Canberra Ave, opposite KFC, and omitted Fyshwick Markets & outside Kingston Railway Station.

The plan to build a Bus Transit lane on Canberra Ave, together with a park & ride facility on Tom Price St Fyshwick (Near DFO) was welcomed. The increasing population of Queanbeyan & Googong will mean more drive time congestion on Canberra Ave. Having a bike path on the Narrabundah side rather than keeping it on the Fyshwick side was considered problematic.

The response from TAMS Minister Shane Rattenbury was very encouraging. Mill Creek Bridge, the next phase of the bus transit way will be an expensive exercise. Maintenance & flood proofing the bridge will not be easy.   Mill Creek Bridge was washed away in 1947. The Federal Govt, under the NCA, should fund maintenance as it is a designated area.
