The old Narrabundah area now has a wetland, located off Matina and Goyder Streets. The new wetland will transform a section of Jerrabomberra Creek into a haven for wildlife and an asset for Narrabundah residents.
The official opening date of the Wetlands on Sunday March 29 2020 was postponed due to the Coronavirus. Another date may be set for early spring. Watch this space. In the meantime enjoy the wetlands walk with your friends, family or solo. Dogs may be taken to the wetlands but must be on a lead.
The Narrabundah Wetland will play an important role in removing pollutants from the water before the creek flows into the Jerrabomberra Wetlands downstream.
The new 420m long wetland includes a chain of open water ponds, a sediment basin, high-flow diversion structure and bypass channel to protect the site from flooding.
The opening, on Sunday 29 March, from 9.30 am until 1.30 pm, will feature:
• Workhops (FrogWatch, Plants Walk and Talk and Snake Awareness
• Native plants for sale
• BBQ (Woden Rotary Club) and a coffee cart
• Stalls and environmental information.
The Wetlands is a combined ACT and Australian Government project.
